March 08, 2017 at Berkeley City Club in Berkeley.
Our tasting of Chardonnay will take place on Wednesday, March 8th, 7pm. That gives each of us plenty of time to research Chardonnay from France (where it is the varietal from which white Burgundy is made), or from any other of its nearly world wide sources. The French version may be less ripe, less alcoholic, more focused and enchanting. Warmer-climate California Chardonnay often is toasty, oaky, and luscious. On the other hand, in the last ten years, a newer style of California Chardonnay has gained favor, a style that is less fruit-forward, more structured, and often more a reflection of terroir. But where ever it is made and in whatever style, Chardonnay has a wonderful varietal character shared with no other wine.
Grapevine tasters will have a chance to compare and contrast, and perhaps by the end of the evening we will have discovered a new favorite Chardonnay.
Ticket sales end on Friday, March 3, 2017 at noon.
