October 22, 2016 at Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland.
In recent months, artists and athletes have drawn attention to the modern day civil rights struggle — Kaepernick, Curry, Beyonce, Williams and even Prince. The same star power helped the civil rights movement at a different but equally distinct time: the 1960s, when Martin Luther King connected with celebrities of the day to bring star power to the movement.
Panelists will include scholars, local artists and musicians involved in activism, and we invite you to be a part of developing your own plan to incorporate leadership lessons into the justice movement, too!
