Chad Hasegawa was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai’i and moved to San Francisco in 2000. He received his BFA in advertising from the Academy of Art University and worked for top agencies, including Venables Bell & Partners and Goodby Silverstein & Partners. After leaving advertising, he concentrated on creating street murals and canvases for gallery exhibitions. Hasegawa has completed murals throughout San Francisco, and also in Venice, CA, Honolulu, HI, Wynwood, FL, and Basel, Switzerland. He has been awarded residencies at Recology and 509 Cultural Center. He has exhibited his paintings locally at The Luggage Store Gallery, 941 Geary, White Walls, and at Vertical Gallery in Chicago, at the Honolulu Academy of Art Museum and is fresh of a residency / exhibition at the de Young Museum in San Francisco.
Erik Otto was born in San Jose, California in 1980 and received his BFA in Illustration from San Jose State University in 2005. Shortly after, he relocated to San Francisco to pursue a career in the fine arts. Fleeting moments of change and discovery are depicted and reinvented continually utilizing a variety of materials spanning from traditional paintings to mixed-media sculptures and installations. With over 10 years of experience, Otto has held exhibitions in San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Mexico City, and Vancouver. On top of producing commission work for notable clients and collectors, Otto was selected for both the SF Recology Artist-in-Residence Program, VSCO Artist Initiative Grant and had work featured in the most recent YBCA Bay Area Now. As well, Otto completed his largest painting commission to date for Grand Hyatt San Francisco’s permanent collection.Otto currently live and works in San Francisco and travels frequently to Mexico City and New York City.
Muzae Sesay | Memories often escape me. Unable to decipher mundane dreams from waking life. Blurring the line between fantasy and reality. Fiction and fact. As sequence starts to dissipate, time, space, relationships, events, conversations all form an abstract collage. The only definite is the emotional impression. Life becomes an emotional composition.
My current body of work flirts with similar feelings that arise from a fragmented reality. Utilizing skewed perspectives of space and shape collapsed into hyper-flat, two-dimensional planes, I create surrealistic, geometric landscapes. Scenes taken from the physical world and then reconstructed to form an imaginary universe populated by perspectival fallacies. The viewer is compelled to understand the space.
Question its dimensionality. Dive inside and walk around. By disregarding and playing with the laws of perspective my work fosters similar feelings of confusion and intrigue as would blending subconscious dreams and conscious reality, the color and composition act as the emotional impression. Logical sequence is replaced by the harmonious balance of light and dark colors. The viewer is lost yet at peace.
